From Galveston to Denver
Sissy & John
We left Tucson April 15 and headed to Texas for a surprise visit to see my sister, Sissy, and her significant other, John. They recently moved to Galveston, TX. What a great city to explore, with so much history to learn about! We had a fun few days there enjoying museums, catching up, and dining at awesome seafood restaurants!
From Galveston we headed to Tupelo, MS, to stay with our great friends, Dave and Carol Wright. We never miss an opportunity to stop and visit for a day or two when our route takes us near Tupelo. As always, we enjoyed catching up, playing cards, seeing Craig and his family, and eating great food!
On to Ohio. Our first stop was Hamilton to stay the night with Nate, Karla, and Tomas. Nate is always so good about calling us on Sundays to check in and see how and what we are doing. We always love hearing from him, but hugs in person are the best! He turned 55 this month. So hard to believe!
We spent the night, then headed home. We arrived in time for soccer, baseball, track season, and prom. It is always fun to watch the kids in their activities!
Since we have been home, we have done some home improvements. Tim put on a new roof and I helped him insulate the attic! In my opinion, and I think he would agree, his bones are too old to be a one-man roofer! I don't think he will offer or attempt to do any more roof work!
We have been taking every opportunity we have to spend time with family and friends. Our Memorial Day weekend family gathering was fun, and I got lots of help with a puzzle I was doing. Puzzles are something we have always done when everyone was home for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I have completed four 1,000-piece puzzles since we got home, and it was great to have some help on one.
We have had a few fun gatherings with LRC friends. Nancy Dysinger hosted a slumber party at the lake. We had a night at the Moose, another night at Beer Barrel, and a movie. This coming Wednesday I have planned a Rooney Mystery Tour starting at 4 p.m. at the Moose. After some libations, we will travel to a couple of places unknown to the girls for lots of fun and laughs. It is always a great time with these ladies! I am pretty sure the pictures in the next blog of this event will be great!
Burbon Tasting with the LRC Ladies at Catawba Inn
Tom & Chris Meyer
We had another fun slumber party with Tom and Chris Meyer. Tom is the Euchre king! The man can't lose! When Chris got up from her seat after a game was over, I quickly took her chair so I could be his partner. I was tired of losing! Smart move on my part!
We taught John and Robin Koehler how to play Contract Rummy. We are all four addicted to this game! We meet once a week at 4 and play a round, eat, then repeat. We also taught Kim and Doug Cameron to play the other night. We can't get enough of this card game. Food, libations, and cards are a great recipe for a fun night! We have enjoyed having fun with everyone!
June 6 I am off on an exciting adventure with Darby! We are going to Italy for two weeks. Just Buma and Darby! What a memorable trip this will be!
Tim, Nate, Tomas and the Little Guys will be off to the Appalachian Trail
Tim will be taking our three- to eleven-year-old grandsons, plus (grownup grandson)Tomas, Nate and Justin, on an adventure for a week while Darby and I are in Italy. He is taking them all to do his most favorite thing, hiking on the Appalachian Trail. He has spent lots of time the past two weeks gathering supplies and equipment from friends and REI for the adventure. I am sure they will have an incredible experience with PawPaw! I am counting on Nate, Justin and Tomas to take lots of pictures!
When I return on the 20th, we will start preparing to head out June 30 for about 11 months. Our first stop will be in MI to see Bob and Mimi Mihaly in Epworth, then Ken and Carrie Wurm in Grand Rapids, and Steve and Cindy McCahill, friends we met in Tucson who have a Harvest Hosts location near Grand Rapids.
From MI, we have one more planned stop to visit friends who winter in Tucson but have their permanent residence in IN. We are looking forward to seeing where Bill and Lois Rettig spend their summers.
After IN, we head west to Denver, where the Curmudgeon will hike the Colorado Trail for five weeks.
We have had so much fun getting together with all the friends and family we love. We will have lots of memories to think about until we get home again next spring.
Hope you all have a great June!
Peace out, my friends!
