Clothing Optional and Beer Belly’s in the Desert

We have been in Quartzite, AZ, since Sunday.  It is a beautiful sunny day in the 70’s!  On our way here, we stopped to visit with John and Canda Rooney in Sedona.  They invited us to go to Happy Jack, AZ, in the mountains, to spend the night with them in their beautiful log home! We had so much fun. I tried really hard to let one of them win at 7’s! I even changed out of my winning seat and let Canda have it! But nope, I was the winner in the mountains!  We went down to Prescott Valley and spent a night with Jodi Rooney Lair and her husband, Kevin.  Again, I tried to let them win 7’s but wasn’t successful!  I have a feeling this winning streak will come back to bite me when we need a place to stay again!

We met Roger and Carol St Clair Sunday morning at a great restaurant in Prescott for brunch. Salt and Pepper had the best eggs Benedict’s I have ever had. The hollandaise sauce was like no other! Carol and I have been friends since the day we were born. She is 2 weeks older than I. We reconnected when we started camping in AZ.  It’s always so wonderful to see them!

We headed out to Quartzite after brunch. Jan 18-26 is a big deal here every year. There is a huge RV show and hundreds of small vendors set up now. Tomorrow there is a huge tent that will be open for the Gem and Mineral show! We wanted to arrive here early to be sure we could find a good site in the desert right outside of town.

This little desert town of 2,400 people welcomes 1,000,000 RVers during this time. When we arrived, there were plenty of great spots! We parked about a mile from the activities so we could ride our bikes back and forth. There was an optional clothing camping area, which was intriguing, but we decided against locating there.

Over the past few days, the amount of RV’s has quadrupled, as has the amount of desert dust. Glad to have my asthma inhalers and a face mask! We have walked thru the RV show and the rows and rows of venders that are open, and had to have have a bite to eat and a beer at “The Adult Daycare “, Beer Belly’s! It was actually very good. They say the amount of campers will quadruple again by the weekend and continue for the next several days. We were planning on hanging here for a couple of weeks, but the dust is too much! So tomorrow, we will go through the big tent and see what exciting things are within, then head to a quieter spot on the Colorado River in Parker, AZ, about 35 miles from here. Gotta start dinner, so I’ll catch up again in a few days.
